So I'm having half a dozen semi-looping firefox processees.
lets look at a few of these user accounts . Typically there are three processes still running after a user has been Xautokilled: firefox gconfd-2 and "/opt/SUNWapleg/bin/desktopApps"

# ps -fu 00he37fs
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
00he37fs 1211 1 0 Nov 06 ? 0:00
/opt/SUNWapleg/bin/desktopApps
00he37fs 21124 1 0 Nov 06 ? 0:00 /bin/sh /opt/sfw/bin/firefox
00he37fs 21147 21141 0 Nov 06 ? 128:55
/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/firefox-bin
00he37fs 21141 21124 0 Nov 06 ? 0:00 /bin/sh
/opt/sfw/lib/firefox/run-mozilla.sh /opt/sfw/lib/firefox/firefox-bin

So lets look at the environment Args of firefox-bin process 21147

# pargs -e 21147
21147: /opt/sfw/lib/firefox/firefox-bin
..
envp[14]: DISPLAY=:88.0
..

It refers DISPLAY :88
So is XSun for DISPLAY :88 still running ?

..
      No its not.

..
I hope this is enough to convince you that the Xsun process for the user has been killed off
by Xautolock/kill and that some processes remain.

  So enough of firefox.

I know what gconfd is .

but what is the function of /opt/SUNWapleg/bin/desktopApps
Its being started by a Xsession startup script.

It is part of the Sun Desktop Manager (SDM) client. It adds launchers and/or menu items to the user's JDS desktop, which are configured in SDM. It keeps running for the duration of the session, so that it can update the selection of available launchers and menu items when data is changed in SDM (it is an SDM feature that configuration updates can be applied to running sessions or applications, if technically possible). I don't know what mechanism, if any, this has to terminate itself when the session goes away.

 Do I need this SUNWardsa-misc package ?

Only if you are using SDM to configure menus, launchers and auto-start applications.

Apart from these "leftovers" Xautolock / Kill seems to to its job well.
