I need to set up a SunRay server on a network segment that does have
it's own DHCP server. What settings should I pay attention to ?
This has become a lot easier in recent versions of SRSS/firmware. Check
out e.g.:
http://blogs.sun.com/ThinkThin/entry/configuring_dhcp_options_49_and
For me, all that was required was to make the existing DHCP server (the
standard Solaris DHCP daemon) deliver:
- IP addresses to the Sun Ray client. I use fixed IP addresses bound
to the MAC address of each Sun Ray.
- The DHCP option "TFTPsrvN" to make the Sun Ray clients find the TFTP
server for firmware download/update.
- The DHCP option "XDispMgr" to point the Sun Ray clients at the Sun Ray
server.
Instead of "utadm -A <network>" (which sets up the SRSS DHCP server) you
use "utadm -L on" during installation. For firmware management, instead
of "utfwadm -A -a -N <network>" you use "utfwadm -A -a -V" which will
use *.parms files in /tftpboot instead of DHCP.
Hope this helps,
Martin.
