Hello Paul, I asked on this in our local Sun office and was advised that while it is quite possible for a Sun Ray's Xserver to connect to a remote XDMCP server and paint that desktop, this may lag a bit due to multiple graphics buffer conversions. However this should not differ much from SSGD lags. What's worse, the users of "remote Xservers thru Sun Ray" will not get: * Sound * USB media and features like that (X11 protocol doesn't support either, unlike RDP) - which may be achieved by SSGD forwarded desktops.
If these are not an issue, you are ok to try and go. If they are, may be VMWare SRSS servers and some AMGH between them (to direct the DTUs to appropriate servers) are your friends? However from what I heard on the list, the free VMWare Server installations deliver poor performance with SRSS, unlike the fast commercial VMWare. It's nearly the only visible example of their difference. I'd like to hear the experts' comments on all of this, too :) Concerning the remote dtlogin option, I wonder if there's some command-line equivalent? This would allow to script the remote login dialog to pop up with a certain default server selected...
