Many thanks indeed for your wisdom on that....

Will do as you suggest... It's a bigger problem on the larger screen, to be honest, because the huge resolution makes it a bit unusable. Look forward very much to the upcoming release !

Thanks again,

Jamie

Greetings

In our network, we have a collection of screen sizes ranging from 20" to 15". For hot desking, is there a way to get size/resolution to adjust dynamically from one to the next ? At the moment, a user logs in on one, switches to another and then has either an ENORMOUS desktop, or has to pan about. Any way to make things adjust automatically when you move from one to the next ?

No. As of today, the X server cannot change its desktop dimensions after the session is created. The best way to deal with this is to use utxconfig -r GEOMETRY to set the maximum resolution supported on your 15" monitor, so that no matter where you log in you get a desktop that can be hotdesked to the 15" environment without panning. In the 20" environment you may have black bands around your desktop, unless the monitor can support the smaller resolution natively. CRTs tended to be better at this than LCD monitors, ironically.

In our upcoming release, we support the Xorg Xrandr extension, which will allow you to resize your desktop after hotdesking. The upcoming release should be available for external beta testing before long.
