Users practically never use smartcards, and (I should have mentioned from
the start) we don't know where they want to go ahead of time. Any one of our
users (students) may choose to use Linux, Solaris, or TSE (on the kiosk
FOG).

Thanks for the info on where AMGH is instrumented. I think we can make it do
what we need. :)

AMGH is triggered by PAM.  It is instrumented at two points in the login 
process - immediately before login (for AMGH mappings that don't rely on 
the username), and immediately after entering the username (for AMGH 
mappings that rely on it).
