Hello,

Is it possible to change the default black Sun Ray cursor to a white
default cursor? I don't mean changing gnome cursor settings.

I would like to change the cursor color even without the need for a
windows manager.

The sun ray mouse cursor is handled locally by the Sun Ray.
Long ago we had the green newt. Can I make something simular by replacing
bitmaps or color settings somewhere?

The "green newt" cursor is a cursor that firmware would use when there isn't an X server telling it what cursor it should be using (i.e. before an X server connected to the DTU).

When attached to an actual session, the X server is (and should be) in control of the cursor. Applications tell the X server what cursor size, shape, and color they desire when they have control. If you were to try and override this in SRSS, it would take control away from the applications and provide a confusing user experience.

If you don't have a window manager running, then presumably applications can't communicate their preferences for cursor to the X server. There still should be a way, through standard X API, to set a cursor, and it will probably remain at that setting if there's no window manager running.
