Are you talking about a passive solution, or do you have budget? Something like this shouldn't have any problems: http://www.networktechinc.com/vsplt-dvi.html Whereas a Y cable splitter might be a problem. Are you using DVI digital or analog? A lot of projectors have a vga passthrough so if using analog you could connect your monitor into that directly. Of course they have to support the same resolution if you do that.
