I believe you were confused by the demo. Sun Ray can't "load an OS".
Since it's a thin client it doesn't run an OS. What it can do is to
allow you to choose between some servers already running a particular OS
(Linux or Solaris, or Windows if you utilize a Terminal Server or VDA)
and connect to them.

The presenter never says Sun Ray "loads an OS", he says it "presents an
OS enviroment".
The OS's are running either directly on Sun Ray servers or on servers
accessed via Sun Ray servers.
The Sun Ray is simply using a "chooser" in a "kiosk environment" (i.e.
no log-in) to choose which Sun Ray server to connect to based on the OS
that's desired to use.
