Hello, I recently purchased a couple of Tadpole Comet12 laptops to go along with the SunRay DTUs I've been setting up around the house. I know this has been discussed once before on this list, so I apologize if it gives you indigestion, bloating, or a general distrust of bi-pedal carboniferous meat popsicles.
The two systems appear to be absolutely lovely in their design, fitting nicely into my small laptop case and even into the glove compartment of my wife's car. There is one, small, glaring issue with my comets -- I can not seem to get into the firmware. I have tried taking out the battery, shaking it up and down like an etch-a-sketch. I even thought of forcing a firmware update to 1.4.8 but it seems to refuse to TFTP any firmware after running its DHCP. I watched it play out using snoop and it managed to DHCP an address but stop there. It is attempting to connect to an IP address way off in the distance and I'm sure the SysAd would not be too thrilled about that. Is there some magical incantation other than STOP-C that will turn my brick back into a Tadpole Comet12? Short of that, is there a place I can get information on opening it up and shorting some magic Jumper? I had to do that on my SunFire V210 to crack into it so might be comfortable doing it on a Tadpole... I took apart a few Sparcbooks ages ago to fix broken mice, but I am not interested in hosing up these beautiful thin clients with my fat fingers. Thanks a bunch, Jonathan Yes, I know it's January 1st but I'm bored. -- -- Jonathan Kalbfeld ThoughtWave Technologies LLC www.thoughtwave.com "Yes, we did!"
