I didn't see any reply to this on the list, and we are experiencing similar problems.
We have just built RHEL 5.2 servers and are using SRSS 4.1, when logging in to the servers via ssh, /etc/profile is sourced as it should. When starting a Gnome or KDE session via a Sun Ray, /etc/profile is never sourced.
