Your switch only limits you when the server can send data faster than the link speed provided. For example, I have a gigabit adapter on the server, a 10/100Mbit switch, and a few SunRay 1g DTUs. Server-to-switch is 100F, switch-to-DTU is 100F, so server's 100 up = client's 100 down and everything is happy dandy... for one client. Now, if I have 10 DTUs on the switch, then the server is limited by the switch since it only has 100Mbit upload to the network, so if all clients request their 100 down, the server can only give 100 up to the whole network, resulting in 10 up to each client (assuming all 10 simultaneously request a large load from the server). If we had a gigabit switch, then the server talks to the network at full speed and can provide 100Mbit up for each of the clients. In normal everyday usage scenarios, this is extremely rare... unless you're trying to play a large network game of Quake 3 at 400x300...@30fps on all of the clients, like me. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that your server-to-switch is 10H and your switch-to-DTU is 100F, so you should really invest in a network adapter for the server for better performance.
