clean up /var/tmp, specifically filenames with that particular
username in them.
The new user was likely created with a different UID, even though the
name was the same. There are several processes that create temporary
files in /var/tmp based on the username, and JDS behaves quite
strangely if the file exists but is not writable by the user.
