I have about 15 Xerox DocuPrint 203A printer. Each printer has a different name in the format FX<6 digit number>. Recently I am getting lots of "Failed to open the printer port. (No such file or directory)" in /var/lp/logs/lpsched. When enough print requests get queued up, svc:/application/print/server either stops responding or enter into an infinite restart loop.

svc.startd[7]: [ID 122153 daemon.warning] svc:/application/print/server:default: Method or service exit timed out. Killing contract 68.

Suspecting changing printer dev path as possible cause.

Does the printer path such as
/tmp/SUNWut/units/IEEE802.<MAC>/dev/printers/FX775274 change over time? I mean
the FX775274 part.

I've never seen it change - and we have quite a lot of attached
printers. I have seen the same "model" of printer show up with
slightly different names due to the circuitry / firmware in the
printer. i.e. the first "Epson model 1234" you buy shows up as
FX775274 and then you buy another seemingly identical model 6 months
later and that one shows up as FX7752-BA.
