well -- winxp firewall was off -- but (stupid me) i forgot about the FW between
the windows net and the ray server net!

actually i see the ray server starting to send packets to windows! so in
addition to:
ray server -> tcp 3389 (rdp) -> windows
i need
ray server -> tcp 6000 (sun multimedia extension) -> windows
to get the mediaplayer working with the multimedia extensions (and so avoid the
freezes).

above config works for the accelerated media player.
flash is somehow not accelerated -- i am not going to test that config any
further (can't use it for production).

a pitty.

anyway --- the accelerated stuff looks amazing! i've to say again that i'd like
to see some acceleration also natively on solaris.

... and thanks a million for all details!!!
