Can you still switch to a non-graphical console (Ctrl-Alt-F1...F6)? What happens if you switch to a non-graphical console before it happens? Is there still an X server running and serving display :0? Anything in the log file of this X server? Anything in the kernel log? Ist the mouse still working? USB or PS/2 keyboard/mouse? Are the Sunrays working?
