If you need multiple users, you do not want to use XP; you will need Server
03/08 (preferably 08 r2)

Subject: [SunRay-Users] Working with MS Windows???

Hi guys,

I need some design advice if it's ok......

Basically what I am going to do is setup a Sun Fire V20z with 6GB of RAM and 2
x 73GB HD's running Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10 and install the latest SRSS on it. Now
since I don't know much about Windows apart from single XP based desktop
systems which I haven't used for many years, I would like to find out the best
way of enabling multiple users to login to Win??

To describe my situation better, we have some software which is an accounting
program which will only work with Windows; now in order to get this to work
with Rays I can run the setup in 3 different ways:

1) VBox VDI image of XP
2) Separate machine running Win XP or Server 2k3/8 and rdp with Win connector
3) VBox VDI image of Win Server 2k3/8 and rdp with Win connector

I could also use kiosk mode as the users will have Sun Smart Cards to
seamlessly open into Win or use a separate VBox style window for the MS display
- I am not sure which would work best.

Also I am considering installing the Sun Global Desktop software suite too on
the machine but I don't think it will work with Ubuntu, I know CentOS works
fine or Solaris..... for out of office access to the office instead of using a
VPN; has anyone got any success stories on this?? I know there is an SGD
mailing list which I am subscribed to also but since it's kinda combined with
my SRSS issue I wanted to post here :-)

Last thing quickly, is that I run a single Ray at home currently with very
basic setup so is there any help on kiosk mode or any examples that I can have
a look at?? I can download the SRSS admin manual from filberto.org site which
is fine but was wanting a quick fix I guess!!

Anyhow many thanks to any responses and best regards,

Kaya
