Simple fix is to remove the dtobsolete executable:

rm /usr/dt/lib/dtobsolete

utwall is fixed in SRSS 4.2 has it doesn't use dterror.ds to display the
messages any more.

Thanks to Michael Gregory for pointing me to “utwall”.

My customer tried this on a specific user before broadcasting to several
hundred:

# utwall -d –t “System maintenance required at 3:00 AM\nPlease save your
work and log off” utku120

But the first time the user received this message:

"The Common Desktop Environment (aka CDE) has been deprecated and will be
removed in a future release of Solaris. Please move to the java Desktop
System (aka JDS) <check mark box> do not show this message again.”

My customer’s desktop is JDS. Is there a way to disable this warning message
regarding CDE? Is utwall going away?

Thanks,

Jason

Subject: Broadcasting a message to Sun Ray and SGD users

Team,

IHAC with SGD deployed to provide an interface into all health care
applications ... upwards of 750 concurrent users. About ½ of the users are
coming from Windows PC’s, the other half are from Sun Rays. On the Sun Rays
we’re using a Java Desktop + Firefox browser (kiosk) that directs users to
SGD. The customer is wondering if there’s a way to get a message out to all
users, instantaneously either via SGD or SRSS (JDS)? For example, if there’s
an issue with their primary health care system – they’d like to be able to
inform users via pop-up. They could update the Webtop with a message but
this isn’t ideal as once a user has opened an application they will not have
the Webtop in focus and from a PC they may not have a Webtop. Thought or
suggestions?

Thanks,
