Hello Bryan,

The most experience I have with video is with FLASH. You are currently
restricted to Internet Explorer 7 or 8 with FLASH 9 or 10. The video is
actually pretty good and the audio stays perfectly synced (as long as
the Windows VM is using the SunRay Audio driver and not the Windows RDP
Audio one). You just can't do full screen video as it only supports up
to 1024x768 pixels to be rendered. I haven't done anything with the
other video formats supported with Windows Media player, but I have seen
good results from others.

USB support is hit or miss. Haven't had any issues with thumb drives.
The issues arise with Web Cams and devices that require either more
power than the SunRay can support (which you would have to use a powered
USB hub for). Isochronous devices are also not supported and I believe
this is why the iPhone doesn't work with it.

I would recommend testing with the devices your users use before
deploying.

So as you can see its better but not yet perfect, but definitely a step
in the right direction. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks

Subject: [SunRay-Users] SRSS 5 - Video + USB

Hello,

We have been running SRSS version 4 for over 6 months now and are very
happy with the solution. The biggest complaint we receive from our end
users is video performance and USB support.

I am aware that SRSS version 5 addresses these issues for Windows. We
are using Sun VDI (running on SPARC) to connect the SunRay 270 thin
clients to a Windows XP farm running in VMWARE. We are hoping to
upgrade to SRSS 5 within the next month..

I am consistently asked how much better video will be after the upgrade.
Can someone share how much of a difference they saw with Flash and
Windows Media Player video when they moved to the latest version of
SRSS? Was is a small difference or did it completely fix the delay with
video frames and audio that is out of sync experienced with SRSS 4?

Also has anyone had any major issues with the USB redirection in SRSS 5
with Windows XP? Have you found any category of devices that will not
work with the USB redirection?

Thanks
