I have recently installed "oracle/sunray virtual desktop client" on a PC and I have a question about using a USB java card on the PC. We require the use of a Java card to log in to the Sunray server and we have disabled USB on the sunray server so you can not use the USB port on a typical sunray client like a Sunray 2FS. My question is if you load the virtual desktop client on a PC, can you use a USB Java card reader on the PC considering we have the USB disable on the Sunray server ?

The short answer is: yes, almost certainly this will work.

The longer answer:

When you say "USB java card" are you really asking about a smart card reader that is connected to your PC via USB and into which you want to insert a Java
Card? I'm going to assume that's why you mean.

The "oracle/sunray virtual desktop client" (OVDC for short) allows use of a smart card for session mobility ("hot desking"), but it does not yet support the ability to use a smart card with PC/SC-lite on the server and passthrough to Windows via uttsc for smart card-based login. If you just need smart card based session mobility, then the current release of OVDC will do what you want.

When you plug a smart card reader into a Windows machine, OVDC treats the reader the same way that the hardware DTU treats the internal smart card reader - it is used by the server to read a token ID from the card, the reader is not passed to the server as a distinct device, so that if you plug in your USB reader, OVDC will not export it to the server as a USB device. That means that any settings on the server that control USB devices will not apply to a USB connected smart
card reader when that reader is being used by OVDC.

One important point to remember is that any smart card reader you want to use on your Windows machine with OVDC for hot desking must be supported by PC/SC on Windows - OVDC doesn't supply drivers for devices such as smart card readers. This is usually not a problem but something to keep in mind in case you can't
seem to get your reader to work.
