Yes. You need to use the PC/SC-lite API (on Solaris) or, if you want
to access a
smart card from Windows, use the PC/SC API on WIndows and be sure to
enable
smart card redirection on the uttsc command line.
You will need software that knows how to use the appropriate APIs and
knows
what APDUs to issue to your smart card. Many cards also are write-
protected
and need to be unlocked with a PIN or a cryptographic key or some
other method
that tells the card that it should allow the host to add/modify/delete
data on the
card. That is all card and/or applet specific and so you need to know
how to do
that with the particular card you want to use.
