Hello,
I like the Sun Ray product a lot. So forgive me for being blunt sometimes.
I kind of feel I am doing a Oracle VDI product managers job here, so I
hope I don't offend anyone.

This is sooo Sun. But guess what? Everbody accepted it because Sun was
nice, did not play hardball with licenses, etc.
So you basically still had the money to work around these issues.
Now the Oracle vision:
- Oracle wants to be nr 1 in what they do.
- Oracle demands from the customer to pay the following for support of a
nr1 product:
- 22% of the Sun Ray RTU for Sun Ray software support.
- 12% of the net. Sun Ray hardware price for firmware support, (quite
expensive for the 1,3 MB of firmware for the 3i)
- 8% for OS support (not quite sure how this works yet)
- 4% of the net. hardware price of peripherals (country kit) for
priority support.
Now if you want a customer to pay all this......Then you should make
damn sure you sell a nr1 product!
And in my customers opinion the current combination of Sun ray 3i and
the country kit does not fit this bill.
So as a Sun Ray product manager I would be very uncomfortable with this.
That is why I would like to advice Oracle to look into this and come up
with a solution.
If Oracle fails to do so it will make the business of the Oracle VDI
partners very hard.
Business is already very hard because of the long takeover period.
See for instance the bankruptcy of one of the mayor Sun (VDI) partners
in Europe: Dataman International.
If this trend continues it would be very bad for the whole Oracle VDI
product line.
I admit it is not easy to put the Oracle VDI business on the road.
But come on! Kick some ass! Go for it! Be NR 1!
It will be in the interest of all former Sun Partners.
Kind regards,
Ivar
