All:

I had two separate issues . One was users complaining about network drops, and two I had an issue with my sunray not being able to consistently resolve DNS entry for "sunray-servers" and "sunray-config-servers" . The DNS issue seems to be related to the DSL router/modem I am using. This morning I was experimenting using DSL router/modem and using a separate DSL modem and a Linksys router. When using the DSL modem and Linksys router , DNS never failed. It seem the Verizon DSL router/modem is interfering with the DTU communications. The Verizon DSL router/modem is a Westell 7500.

It is my understanding that the Sunray DTU gets the DNS host IP from the VPN concentrator and request the DNS entry directly from the DNS server.

     Answers to your questions

1) Has this been working fine prior?
I am not sure whether it worked fine before or not because users do not
always complain or they are not using the sunray
regular basis from home. We recently had remote connections stress test at our
facility and users ask to participate and respond. This is when they were
reporting drop connections. I got the impression from a couple of users that
this happens all the time, even when we are not stress testing.

2) What has changed recently? Nothing that I know of

3) Is the timeout repeatable? I will have to check with the users.
If so, after how much time?

4) Does it happen only after idle time or even when there is activity?
   It happens during activity.

5) What about non-thin clients?
     Not that I know of.

I have a couple question of my own on what other sunray admins are doing.

1) Are you specifying the IP addresses of the Sunray servers and Firmware
server on the remote DTUs or are letting DNS
     resolve "sunray-servers" and "sunray-cofig-server" ?

2) I am letting DNS resolve it and in some situations it is no resolving. Can
I set a timeout on the sunray for DNS resolution ?

It seems that we are having a rash of users complaining about the
Sunray (DTU) dropping its network connection when using the Sunray from
home via VPN. The sunray (DTU) has the default VPN configuration for
IKE Lifetime=28800 , IPSec Liketime=28800, Peer Detection=off and
Session timeout=0. What could be causing the drop connections ? I do
not manage the VPN concentrator but it is a Cisco 3080. Is there some
type of timeout that can be changed ?

Thanks
Steve

I'm using DHCP option 49 to specify the SRS and option 66 to specify the
firmware server.

I wouldn't think that would be the source of your problem, though: if DNS
resolution failed, I would think that the entire VPN connection would fail, not
that it would initially succeed and then drop off some random time later.

Brad,

Is the SRSS Suite ever going to get respun into a fresh release? I'm
running on Solaris 11 Express, and it appears there's no way to patch,
so we are running releases of SRSS that are several years old now.

Does anyone have any interesting thoughts on getting Netflix streaming
working on Sunrays?

Netflix only supports Mac and PC clients, so native Linux or Solaris is out.

I tried SRWC, but Netflix DRM won't allow streaming over RDP. (thanks
guys!)

I'll give VNC a shot, but won't be as nice as RDP would be.
