I've had about a dozen SunRays (old ones) running for years
on a Sun 280R now running Solaris 10 8/07 s10s_u4wos-12b SPARC.
It is SRS 3.1_32,REV=2005.08.24.08.55 (SUNWuto). I'm not an
expert and once I got it going, I haven't modified it ...

Recently I've installed Solaris 10 x86 on a Sun x4150 (dual quad
core, 16 GB, zfs root). The plan was to let the x4150 run SRS
and unload the old SPARC and have it run some old (and expensive)
SPARC Solaris only software.

However I'm having issues getting a test SunRay (1G) to come up
on the x4150 (the SunRay works fine on the 280R).

The x4150 is a fully patched installation of Solaris 10 U9 (at
least it was last week):

[x4150:/home/stu]# cat /etc/release
                    Oracle Solaris 10 9/10 s10x_u9wos_14a X86

SunRay is (I think) 5.1.2 - I see that 140994-07 is installed.
I downloaded the latest SRS update from MOS and installed that
and rebooted and configured it.

SunRay is configured on:

[x4150 : /export/x4150/patch : 3 ] ifconfig -a
e1000g3: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 3
        inet 192.168.128.1 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.128.255
        ether 0:1e:68:4:e6:47

(others deleted)

The old SPARC is running CDE - I can remotely log into the x4150
at the console of the 280 (it has an XVR100). I can also log in
over the ILOM redirected console as a normal user).

However, if I disconnect the network cable from the 280 QFE interface
and plug it into the e1000g3 interface on the x4150 configured to
provide SunRay services, I get a 24D box and then the SunRay restarts
in a continuous cycle. If I replug the cables such that the SunRay
is on the 280R it just works again.

So, I'm a confused novice that could use some advice on trouble shooting.

Thanks,

Stuart
