I'd really appreciate the wealth of experience that is evident on this list and
some good will.
I will describe the situation briefly and then paste the info I collected,
hoping that someone might see a familiar pattern
# I do have a support contract for OS as well as Oracle VDI#

I am on 4.2 version.
I know I should have upgraded, however I've reached a stable situation and
have decided to wait
until transition of the support from Sun to Oracle was completed.
###### Here is the trouble ##################
I have one box running everything. With a few adjustments to network variables
things were really good so far
at least for 1.5 years.
Solaris and SunVDA is configured to work with OpenLDAP
I repeat that everything worked until Monday morning for 1.5 years
I had an initial trouble to get automated updates to work after the 1st of
April, as probably did some of you
On support advice I have patched the system as advised

rebooted and found that everything was the same. The updates did not work anyway
and I had to open CSR with Oracle

two days ago AC unit in the server room had compressor failure.
The temperature sensor cut the power to the room at 32 Celsius.

I had started server up and got a cheerful dtlogin display
However using root from the console resulted in hour glass spinning and
throwing me right back to the dtlogin screen
Changing login from root to LDAP account produced the same result

I have checked the web interface to VDA which was made to work with OpenLDAP
everything worked as expected. I could query directory and assign VM at will
However the sign of error in kiosk configuration has alerted myself to the
worst things to come.

Steps taken to remedy the situation.
removed .dt* .ICE* .Xauthority
that did not work
ssh however still works fine either to root or an OpenLDAP account
deleted all the accounts utku*
recreated and rebooted
the same result ssh works and X does not
on Card insertion the hour glass spins and bombs out
To isolate OpenLDAP possible issues
changed nsswitch.conf to nsswitch.files
and pam.conf to the oiginal.
