Hello listmembers,

some things that worked before stopped working with SR3 and SRSS 5.2.5 in a Linux amd64 environment. I assume this is not Debian (and fwiw perhaps also Ubuntu) or distribution specific:

- Registered smart cards that were recognized with SR1/SR2 hardware are not recognized or trigger error 63 codes in a SR3. Do I have to use newer cards?

- An Avision scanner that worked perfectly with utusbrun in a 32bit chroot no longer works; it can be seen with scanimage -L but actual scanning yields "cannot open device". An older Epson USB scanner continues to work as before, as does the Avision scanner plugged directly into the machine and without any SunRay technology involved.

Does EHCI impose stricter definitions on USB code in a device driver? Do I therefore need to contact the Avision SANE driver maintainer, or is this rather a glitch in the new SRSS 5.2.5 USB implementation that strikes only with commands that this ADF scanner needs (in contrast to the flatbed Epson)?

It must be the interplay of firmware and SRSS that is the problem: Downgrading the firmware alone lets me see at least the scanner options that did not load with SRSS+fw 5.2.5, but scanning itself still does not work with the 5.2.5 SRSS services and older fw. Yes, I did notice that libusbut.so.1 now needs the company of libut.so.1 in the chroot.

- William Yang's software VPN HowTo at
http://www.tjhsst.edu/admin/livedoc/index.php/IPSec_VPN works with a SR2. It seems, the authentication method in a SR3 has been changed to some previously not employed Kerberos flavor that crashes racoon in a way that has been described by others before in bug reports and that has never been fixed.

Am I therefore stuck with a SR2 for working from home in my SOHO environment? But I wanted the upgrade to SR3 because of better audio and Flash playback over WAN.

- If I need a Cisco VPN capable device to connect with a SR3 over WAN, what would be the cheapest solution that works? I couldn't find a list of recommended hardware.

Some answers would be highly appreciated...

Best regards,
Andreas Heydwolff
