Terry,
I can understand your frustration... I went from 1993 to 1998 without
getting anything new from Sunscreem (it was'nt until 1997 that I even knew
they still existed as a band) so I know the feeling behind this... but try
to take reasoning.
The way it looks, Sunscreem is going through some Positive changes (except
the name bit... Infra-Red is a cool sounding name but Sunscreem is a COOLER
sounding name...and I'd hate it if they changed...) so they are simply
busy.... labels everywhere are picking up one song or another, and I'd say
all will come about in due time. In an era where bands simply break up, you
have to give credit for Sunscreem at least hanging around.
I'm gonna argue on your choice of words on one part though I can see your
reason for the statement... I would hardly call Sunscreem "underdogs".
Granted, I understand what you mean, but, maybe it's the fact that
Sunscreem was my "First Band" in rave/techno, I have to say that Sunscreem
is anything but underdogs.
Underrated is the choice phrasing that I like to use to describe them.
In a way I feel that they set the eventual standard for alot of pop rock
conversion to electronic. Slap me for saying this, but for the first time I
have a mainstream song that I can halfway compare to Sunscreem's sound (am
I too off on this one?).... Madonna's title track, Ray Of Light. I believe
that directly or indirectly her album cut of this song is following the
path that Sunscreem's sound has set. The good sophisticated dance pattern
along with a creditable voice.
Whether anyone notices it or not, Sunscreem set alot of the sound that
Better bands are following...
(as Erasure did before them)
Anyways, there's my cut but please take no offense. I agree in many aspects
with you but we must also consider the obvious...
Sunscreem/Infra-Red/Whatever is still alive and kicking... if not maybe
sleeping a bit here and there.
