Shortly after the release of "Catch" on Pulse-8 in late summer, 1997,
Sunscreem posted details of their forthcoming single, to be called
"Cover Me", and to be released by end '97. When the track was finally
released as a single almost a year and a half late (admittedly as a
promo, but widely available to buy), the band never bothered to let us
know - rather they seem to be annoyed that we found out (despite
allowing Adam to post vague rumours about its release). Nice, eh?

I'd just like to log my agreement with Nick deLoss and Matt Koehler's
comments with regard to the Cover Up "secret".
Why go to the trouble of releasing the record if they didn't want us
to find out and if there was the possibility of somehow getting into
trouble for it? If any of us had heard any DJ playing it, wouldn't we
have known instantly what and who it was? (By the way, has anyone
heard it played on radio/in clubs? I constantly pester DJs for some
Sunscreem, and some still carry around LuM or PM in their boxes. Most
seem unaware of anything newer than then). Don't they know that we've
been waiting over a year for new material (not that even this is new)?
Don't they care about us at all? I've spent almost 2 years trying to
piece together a full Sunscreem collection - and I know that there are
many others out there attempting to do the same thing - which was hard
enough, without the band themselves withholding info about releases.
Their last mailshot (the last one I got anyway, from '96, around the
time "White Skies" was being released) was all in favour of the free
spread of information. It seems a bit precious of the band to have
apparently wanted to keep this release a secret now.
News would have got out anyway - details of the release (correctly
identified as Sunscreem, by the way) were posted on the
Xenomania/Trouser Enthusiasts' noticeboard the day before Octave
mailed people on this list. The track had been published already via
the Music magazine promo disc, on SS's own "Looking At You" Club Mix
CD, and via other means, and widely known by SS and TE fans to be
Sunscreem. It was so obviously Sunscreem, that hiding behind a new
pseudonym was pointless. I don't see how fear of legal action should
keep this quiet - didn't SS themselves, rather than Pulse-8, own the
copyright on "Catch"? (don't have the single to hand, so can't
check). "Cover Me" was originally supposed to be a Pulse-8 single too,
so wouldn't SS have been the copyright holder for that track as well?
And even if the copyright belonged to Pulse-8, they went under over a
year ago. I would have understood if this happened in the Sony days
(and happen it did - the Anna series, Winchester Slate, Chiba, which I
always assumed were in part a response to the evil Sony overlords'
stance). It would have been nice if the band had been upfront with us
of all people, and do they realise that this has pissed some people
off? But perhaps there is a valid reason, but Adam probably can't tell
us.
>No - it was "secret" for legal reasons. Anyway it makes it all more
fun.
Glad Adam's happy with it. Nice to be in on the secrets.
