I was just looking for an excuse to go on a (into the archives) record bin
trawl - and Grace did the trick nicely. I don,t think I know 'if i could
fly' - but the song that holds the best memorys is 'down to earth'.
This was the first single that threw Grace directly into the middle of
things - and the initial sucess was entirely due to the fact it was off the
original Renaissance compilation (the Sasha and Digs one) that also featured
'perfect motion'. It was nearly 12 months after the compilation had been on
the streets (selling over 150,000 copies - the largest selling comp. ever at
the time) that Oakey decided there might some wring left in the towel. And
thank god he did - because that,s when the real magic was created - thanks
to one Mr BT, who gave us the 'spirtit of grace mix' and the 'peyote dub'.
This was also the first time that I discovered BT - so I think that,s
another reason why Grace became important in my music style and tastes.
The second single 'I want to live' was o.k - with a very solid 'rollo and
sister bliss' mix.
I am just looking through all the vinyl now - and the only two picture
covers I can find is one for 'skin on skin' (your right Matt - the 'orange
mix hits the spot') which has the new Grace on the front - big tits, blonde
hair and a dumb look on her face (shit - I better be carefull here, I just
realised who,s domain I am stomping in:) - only joking Lucia - you don,t
have....well there was that pic on the back of the 'lay' 12":) - and the
other one is "down to earth", which has the original Grace on the front -
blonde hair, much older, and very chic.
So, that,s my two cents worth.
