Finally, my copy of No Angel arrived today... A few thoughts:
Just when we've established that the Armand van Helden mix of When is
about the worst SS mix ever, we've got a few more potential candidates
for this title: Robbie Rivera and 68 Beats. I was really tempted to hit
the 'skip' button while listening to those.
The Taz Club Jump mix was actually done back in 1993-94 and came out
under the name Anna Din - Angel on the A side of a white label ANA102.
Only the new mix is like 20% faster and therfore shorter. Otherwise
it's 100% identical to the 1994 version.
Annadin Angel Dub was on Side B of ANA102 (94) and made it on
Renaissance (Sasha & Digweed) in 1994 as Annadin - Angel and a few
other compilations: United DJs of America 5, Live It Up, etc...
A shorter edit of this mix (Angel Dub) came out in 1994 on Pannarama,
and a slightly truncated version (with a shorter outro and slightly
different vocal arrangement) appeared on one of Exodus promo 12"s in
1995 as "Exodus - Annadin."
It was mixed by Dave Valentine whose name I didn't see credited on the
new single, by the way.
Overall impression - half of the mixes are 5 yrs old ('skip'), the
other half is yet to inspire me ('skip' again).
Also, did anyone notice that the official SS site can now be reached at
www.sunscreem.com as well?
/n.
