Heya Listers!
It's Thicketess (from days of when I was lister #25--Thicket). {{Rob}} :) :)
:) Honey, it's good to hear from you.
My $.02 on the SS situation and faith...
I've dropped off the SS list twice. Once because of e-mail issues, the
second time (a few weeks ago), b/c the list was quiet and I was tired of
hearing about "possible" releases of OOTW. I was frustrated. This cd/album
was supposed to be out what ... like 2 years ago?
I unsubscribed to the list and figured that my SS friends would clue me in,
but you know, it's more than SS stuff that I learn about here. People post
about cool bands, SS wannabees, other groups worth checking out. I've gotten
excellent recommendations on other bands (william orbit, olive, bt, chicane,
way out west), I've met some cool people (adam, matt, *keith*, sid, and
others). I've gotten tips on where to buy stuff, hints on new sites to check
out. It's all good.
Rob, I share your frustration to a degree--when you have something that's so
amazing, you wanna share it with the world. You want everyone to see how
good it is--enlighten them. But with SS, they seem to get close to stardom,
then pull away. I often wonder if it's almost intentional.
As Matt said, by letting listers remix SS stuff, we've gotten an inside track
to the band. Maybe it's me, but I don't think DM or most other bands would
let their fans get that close. People have posted stories of meeting SS and
how cordial they were.
Paul and Lucia are dedicated to the music--and to making it right. They
might reluctantly release something that they aren't happy with, but only
after careful thought. They want the music to be good for them, and for us.
They want us to be happy too--even if it seems like they're holding back on
releases. It's not because they want to deprive their listeners. It's
because they're too professional to release crap, which, sadly, many artists
are more than happy to do.
I'm back on the list because, ultimately, SS cares about the fans--and the SS
fans care about other fans. We all know that out of most of the lists out
there, this one doesn't have ever-running flame wars. Sure we have different
opinions, but it's the common interest that keeps us here.
So Rob, you're not the only one who is frustrated ... I think most of us feel
the same. What keeps us hanging on is personal -- but for me, it's the
promise of something yet to come. The unnamed, unknown, yet-to-be released
magic of SS. The I-can't-sit-down-because-this-song-rocks rhythm, Lucia's
sexy vocals, and remixes that make my head spin and my heart swirl ... that's
why I'm here.
-apm (Anne, who is waiting for her limo and is off to SF for 3 days...seeya!)
p.s. As for Madonna, Whitney, and the other "diva"-types. Madonna admits
her voice isn't good, Whitney's voice is pretty strong, but Lucia takes it
for sexy in my book--physically and vocally.
p.p.s. How many kids does Lucia have? I remember Mina .... did she have
another one? And how about an album where Lucia does lullabyes? I would
love to hear what she sings to her kids...
