First off I think I should clear up what appears to be a common
misconception (which may have been my fault to be honest) - while the
Sunscreem site is run by the SS team, Paul & Lucia do not actually fire
their HTML editors every week themselves! In actual fact most of the coding
& design is done by the guys & SSHQ.
Anyway, aside from that, I guess I should explain my position. To respond
to Joost - my online time & resources are extremely limited!! That's why I
have always tried to shy away from any kind of official status - in the
position I am in if it all becomes too much for my limited spare time I can
simply close it all down and walk away. I'm not saying that's going to
happen - but it gives me some comfort knowing that the option is always
there. Anyone who's been with Screeming for a while will know that the
frequency of updates has dropped a lot since the early days. I apologise
for this, but it is a consequence of not being a student any more!!
I also like the unofficial status because it gives me freedom. If I want to
say that the Rollo mixes suck, I can. That would not be possible if I were
being paid by them, or running an official site. The agreement we came to
some time ago was that the two sites should run in parallel and I would
have complete editorial freedom (of course as it's my site I do anyway, but
the important thing is they wouldn't stop supplying info, or withdraw
copyright permission etc if I said something uncomplimentary). There is
also a different emphasis on the sites, mine being on supplying the kind of
info a hardened fan wants (lyrics, pics, discog etc) while they concentrate
on the commercial side, advertising & selling directly.
I happen to agree it would be nice if there was something more interesting
on the official site - if anyone has any ideas let them know! The original
plan was for Screemillenium to be on their site but various techincal
issues made that impossible (at least for now).
I want to see as many SS sites as possible. I can't do it all, and it would
be great to see some other people's thoughts, ideas and creativity. So come
on guys (& girls!)....show us your stuff!
Adam.
