I'm surprised that nobody seems to have posted any opinions on the
Sunscreem "Exodus '99" 12" yet (or have I missed them?). Or maybe you're
like me, and have been too busy to actually get the turntable out of the
cupboard yet... but I'll listen to it soon, I promise!

In the meantime I've been listening to the Scandinavian versions of
"Secrets" and "Exodus", which don't seem to have had much commentary
either, so I thought I'd post my (usually minority) opinions...

Secrets:

C & N Project mix is actually fairly good for what it is; an obvious and
fairly generic trance workout based loosely on a sample from the
original. Perfectly listenable, quite slick. Not the best Sunscreem
remix there's ever been but by no means the worst.

The new (longer) radio edit is a wonderfully subtle bonus, considering I
didn't know it would be different. Very happy with this, even if it's
just because I can listen to one of my favourite tracks for 30 seconds
or so more...

Alternative mix- lovely edit of the Chunky mix, again fairly functional
but if you haven't heard the Chunky mix then I imagine it'll be a
welcome and very positive surprise. Good stuff. Sunscreem's own remixes
rarely disappoint, of course.

Hardhouse dub- deserves to be listened to again, just the once, just for
long enough to get the idea... fair enough.

Exodus:

Fire & Ice radio edit- begins worryingly; at first it reminds me of a
home-sequenced track I wrote about 4 years ago, complete with
home-computer standard squelchy bass noise... but the build is good
(looking forward to hearing the full version) and the string pads, while
plain, are sweet. And when it really kicks in at about two minutes, I
realise that it's a good trance version. Shame on the people who dissed
this track. You are all wrong. :-) Although admittedly it goes a bit off
the plot near the end.

Blue Alphabet radio edit- less good, but again listenable- this time
with greater thanks to the fact I've developed a soft spot for
Euro-techno. By the end I begin to realise that almost any dance track
could become a remix of "Exodus" if you sample the words "exodus" and
slap them on the odd beats here and there... :-)

Now you see what happens when people don't post anything for a while.
You get people like me throwing unwanted and naive opinions at the rest
of you...

Stuart.
