Well I had to get around to answering this one :-)

Agreed a great album, to me very reminiscent of the Chicane album - epic,
musical and just a bit soundtracky. And I like the french lyrics ;-)

And I thought you were a Leftfield man through and through...still a great
choice again. Sublime to the extreme, does far more with answering machine
messages than Prodigy or Fatboy Slim ever managed. "Yeah I wanna get wit'
U...I ain't never made no records, but I wanna get wit' U and make some
hits.....". And the way it builds up into Mercury & Solace...breathtaking...

OK, so what did you forget?

Well ... hmm....IMHO not a great year for artist albums. But Apollo440's
effort was worth a mention if only for the storming "Stop the Rock". And
does the Faithless album (Sunday 8pm) count for this year? Another fine
album from Rollo & the boys. Underworld's Beaucoup Fish was interesting,
although probably knocked out of the top 5.

No doubt there. Or maybe it was Britney Spears' CD...only the one video??
It's not like I bought the thing for the damn music ;-)

An interesting choice. When does a compilation become an artist album in
it's own right? This has to be close to the line....if my memory servers me
the sleeve doesn't even list the tracks used (well not in any sensible
form). From a more traditional view of the compilation my money is on a
couple of amazing albums. First off as you mentioned is Global Underground,
really taking over this year with a whole series of great discs. The 2 Seb
Fontaine "Prototype" discs were great, but the best by far was Sasha
"Ibiza". Phenomenal, no other word for it. I guess one reason I like it was
that I was at noe of his sets @ Space this year....and although GU don't
actually record live the cd sure gets a lot of the atmosphere.

But my overall fave CD comp this year? Gatecrasher "Discotech". Great
choice of tracks, not too high on the cheese factor, and some great
lesser-known stuff. Mixing is impeccable (well it's easy in a
studio!)....if you want proof listen to the first 20 minutes of disc
2....trance at it's most uplifting.

Not bad...not the best.

I wanna hear what you do to Coda ... :-)

I love HBHG but I have to say OOC never quite agreed with me. Sure the
Sasha mix is fine, but it doesn't really do it for me in quite the same way
as, say, Xpander.

I'd give it to Sasha, but because of the sheer quality of the other 3
tracks included in the double pack. Very very nice, lovely packaging, a joy
to own :-)

Now I'm going to chuck some more singles into the pot...but I won't try and
rank them:

M3 : Bailamos
Fragma : Toca Me
Planet Perfecto : Bullet in The Gun
BT : Mercury & Solace
Veracocha : Carte Blanche (Right year??)
Cascade : Transcend
Ayla : Angelfalls (Beautiful!)
Hybrid : Finished Symphony
Skip Raiders : Another Day
Airscape : L'Esperanza
Oudja : Never Tell
The Traveller & In Motion : Believe (Float away....)
Infra Red : Cover Me (!!!)

Nothing scientific in that list...just a quick trawl through my record
pile....hopefully some food for thought. And if you haven't heard the Ayla
track yet - get to it!

Two times....

OK so here's where I own up - I quite like Yomanda, and for that matter
Southside Spinners, and even Alice Deejay. I draw the line at DJ Jean...but
there's nothing like a quick dose of "hand's in the air" every so often.

That'd be CIN under great pressure from the major labels. Blame people like
Columbia & EMI who have little dance stuff under their main labels but a
whole lot of rock & Indie.

Have a good one...

Adam.
