Welcome to the list Peter,
My apologies to the the rest of the list, but I thought others might be
interested in what SS distribution is like here...
I don't know about eastern Canada, but I know that in western Canada it's
almost impossible to find Sunscreem anywhere. That includes mainstream
stores like HMV, Tower, and Virgin as well as the used stores. O3 got
distributed pretty well in Canada back in 1993. I bought a copy of the UK
version back then, but now the US version is distributed (the only
difference is the cover artwork). I still see an occasional copy of it (US
version) in a mainstream music store now and then.
Other than O3, nothing else really got distributed in Canada. I saw a copy
of Change or Die *once* at the Tower Records megastore in Vancouver. That
was last summer. It was the original CoD version from Sony, not the new
Whirling one.
Bottom line is that you'll probably have to import everything yourself from
the US or UK. I don't know of any Canadian stores (online or physical) that
carry any other Sunscreem. If you find any, please let me know. I know the
imports get pricey (I ended up paying about $95 CDN for some stuff totalling
about $27 US after duty, shipping, and brokerage fees), but we've just got
to put up with it. Usually the cost isn't nearly as bad as my example.
Sorry, I know some of the following addresses were listed in earlier
replies:
If it's a UK/European distribution, I usually get it directly from SS
headquarters: www.sunscreem.com Like someone else said, get your copy of
New Dark Times while you can. It's a limited edition CD and this is the only
place you'll find it. You've been warned.
I've been buying the new Whirling CD distributions from www.cdnow.com
If you're looking for old singles (mostly European releases), then you'll
have to hit the used stores. Here are some good places to start:
www.netsounds.com
www.moremusic.co.uk
www.hard-to-find.co.uk
If you're looking for new vinyl, then www.octaveonhigh.com or
www.cultureseven.com are good places to try. Culture Seven is a little
easier to deal with.
Good luck in your search,
Chris Marta
