Oooooh questions :-)
To go through them in (roughly) the right order:
The Sunrise mix was supposed to be coming out soon, but I kind of lost track
of it's progress. I'll try and get an update. Happy hardcore it certainly
isn't, but it IS up, it IS totally different from the original. Gone is the
guitar-sing-along feeling, and instead we have a crazy-cool synth line
bouncing along like a Ferry Corsten track. In fact sod trying to describe
it - there's a sample on Screeming right now - go listen. I know a few
people have heard the whole thing and the response I've had had been largely
positive. As for the identity of Anna Logic....that'll remain shrouded in
mystery ;-)
Out of the Woods....hmmm...what to say. The honest truth is I don't know.
I'm just as sick of you guys of the "in a couple of months" stories. The
thing about albums is they are never finished...as long as the tapes keep
sitting around in the studio they will keep working on them (as I remember
hearing in an interview with a painter, "the hardest part about art is
knowing when to stop"). So the important thing is just saying stop - and
drawing a line under it. My feeling is that no-one is rally satisfied with
the current licensing and distribution situation, in that they all feel it
is worthy of more exposure than it is likely to get - so what to do? I've
heard some crazy ideas....which I really can't talk about, but rest assured
it isn't going away (I won't let it!). The DJ version was an idea passed
around a few months ago, a lot of the album tracks have various remixes
floating around so they basically did a remix version of the cd...the idea
was for some kind of dual-release. Not sure what the status of that is...
Set lists - another interesting point. The fact is that they usually play
club PA's rather than full concerts these days, and in 30 mins (=6 tracks)
in front of a non-fan audience you can't do anything too experimental. So
typically they roll out a load of club-friendly remixes of classic tracks.
For instance : TE Cover Me, Gomez Love U More, Andy Ling Catch, etc. So in
some ways it's new material, and some ways it's not. Thing's like Catch will
be on OOTW (as far as I know) so you could call that stuff off the new
album. One day they'll do a 90 min set and then we're in for a treat...
Very true about five am doing good things for SS. Not only have they put out
Exodus, but a certain "Chiba" has been doing some wicked remixes for them
recently. One point to note is that five am is an offshoot of John C's
company (Big Fish) the driving force behind it is Natalie, who is also label
manager of the Bonzai franchises. Credit where credit's due. And the Bonzai
story in mixmag was quite fun to read. The stuff about jumping on the
Eurostar to Belgium with 1 minute to spare to be greeted by an already drunk
John reminded me of my first trip to see SS play abroad in Lille. And it
would be nice to see Lucia gracing the cover of anything again (even a
record sleeve!).
Hmm...rather a long mail, time to post that sample and hit the sack...night
all :-)
Adam.

Hi,
While I was contemplating the recent lack of discussion on Chaos, a few old
issues came to mind.
What has happened to the release of the Sunrise mix for Secrets?
I have only talked to one person who has actually heard it, and the verdict
was less than encouraging.
Am I to believe that this "amazing" mix that we have been told about, is
nothing more than a bam-bam happy hardcore affair?
What,s the story Adam? You said this mix was something totally different
and that we would be transformed by it,s greatness. Well maybe you didn,t go
quite that far, but you did give it a mighty enticing build up.
Anyone remember the talk a while ago about a D.J edition for Out Of The
Woods.?
I can,t recall who posted it, but I do remember someone talking about it
being worked on.
Is the regular version of the album actually finished (and I mean ready to
slap into the stereo)?
Are there any D.J,s who are actually working on, or have completed mixes of
material from the new album.
I am also curious about what the bands set list is for the upcoming gigs.
I thought they would have been road-testing some of the new material by
now - getting the word out on the new album.
Anyway - all I,m trying to say is - WE ARE READY.
GIVE US SOMETHING TO DANCE TO.............please :)
And after we have had our fill from the new album, I think that a serving
of "NDT - phase2" would be perfect for dessert.
Actually, some new Anna material would also hit the spot at the moment.
Sunscreem are capable of producing the most seductive trance - it,s a shame
that this material (e.g. - NDT) hasn,t had the industry recognition that it
deserves. If it wasn,t for Five AM releasing those mixes of Exodus - then I
think that SS would have missed the opportunity to be a respected
contributor to the recent era of trance. The amount of good feedback I have
heard concerning the Exodus mix on the Gatecrasher disc, made me realize
that a lot of people had completely forgotten about SS. Now if John had
never started that label, then there would have been another generation of
ravers that never knew the magic that is SS. There is a lot of new blood out
there - and I believe the screeming massive is ready to accommodate them.
On another note - did everyone know about the article DJ magazine did on
Bonzai records.
It,s a couple of months old (one of the pitfalls of waiting for surface mail
in Australia), but I don,t recall any discussion on it.
The only mention it gave concerning SS was a bit at the beginning where they
named Paul C as director of the company (or something like that).
It would be nice to see Lucia grace the cover of Mixmag again.
Enough rambling...........must remember to avoid keyboards after excessive
nights out.
later,
jamie k
