I noticed that the ncursesw branch implements only the first part of the wide-char fixes suggested in the extconf patch in http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/sup-talk/2007-October/000297.html.
Entering UTF-8 characters in the textfields ('To', 'Subject', 'Alias') still doesn't work. It worked fine, though, applied the second part of the patch as well.
