Eric,
Makes perfect sense! My boss at the day job has a similar scenario at
home... his main machine is a Wallstreet PowerBook that I've upgraded with a
500MHz PowerLogix BlueChip, a 20GB IBM Travelstar, and 256MB of RAM. He has
a IIci which I had set up some time ago in a dual-monitor configuration for
MiniCAD work which the family also used. But everybody liked using the
faster PB, and one of his sons has a G4 that goes between home and school,
so basically the expectations for performance were raised. His wife
especially preferred the PB to the ci. I came up on a Performa 5300CD not
too long ago and after adding more RAM and an Ethernet card for the home
network, his wife has a machine that she enjoys immensely and handles her
needs perfectly... until she decides it is too slow!
The question is, does your wife like using YOUR machine? Do you think she
would be happy having one that she could call HER own? <g>
You can buy an Apple machine for not a lot of money these days, but it's
hard to beat the satisfaction of tweaking up an older Mac or clone!
