Hi Pete,
I picked a clean S900 from Henry 5 hours ago as I'm on the other side
of the bay from Union City. They are in a business complex (their
hours are10-5 PM PDT). I was welcomed in and I asked for Henry. He
came out and greeted me and told me to wait while he gives the
machine a last check. The waiting area functioned also as an assembly
area of PC's, putting labels on PC floppy disk drives, storage area
for PC boxes and the 2 people there were friendly but I didn't want
to interfere with their labors with busybody talk about the curious
working conditions. I was satisfied enough to have a place to sit
while I waited and wondered about it all. Then Henry came out. A
young man in his 20's Henry was friendly and apologized for the wait
and invited me into another larger room see the test results. This
area had PC's and Umax's in and out of boxes. He showed me the
machine and it was really clean so we both guess that maybe this lot
was made just before and after Job's cut off the competition. The
test results were all OK and to my surprise the S900 had a 4 GB HD
and Henry included a Umax keyboard and power card but no mouse. I
paid $ 178 with tax. He has 3 price levels (I think somebody posted
that here). Henry said that the lot that Shawn had mentioned was all
sold. But he said anyone interested should email
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) him he said, as he pointed to an area
about 10 x 15 ft. piled with PC boxes about 7 ft high (I'm 6'4") and
said, "I probably have more in that stock." The S900 for me was my
first choice in '97 but I bought the C500 as it was much cheaper and
would cover my meager needs then. It would be a quantum leap for me
going from my Mac IIsi and my little used Commodore Amiga 2000 to a
603e machine. I also figured a C500 instead of a S900 would be less
likely to invoke the "What about the Amiga?" script from my better
half (who is computer literate from1976 so that helps I think)...
Anyway she accepted the S900 now as long as she gets a Mac PowerBook
for her birthday. Well, that event falls during the week Macworld and
Jobs hold forth in San Francisco so who knows what Jobs will show
then so my fellow attendee might change her mind by then. But I
digress. Yes dealing with Henry was a real pleasure and I'm sure he
can get you a good deal.
Eric
