Back on Dec.21, 1999 John Albert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> posted to this
list a method using ResEdit to hack apple's drive setup to see a Western
Digital drive. Because I found myself in the same situation as you. I saved
and printed his instructions. Using his instructions I hacked a copy of
Drive Setup ,which at the time was ver.1.7.2, and I was running OS 8.6 and
was able to initialize my 4GB WD drive. I am now running OS 9.04 with Drive
Setup ver. 1.9.2 and it recognizes and is able to initialize the Western
Digital Drive
If John Albert is still on the list a belated thank you.
I have been off the list for nearly a year and am glad to be back.
What version of Drive Setup are you using?
I still have his instructions which are rather lengthy but I can get them
to you if you are interested and are comfortable using ResEdit. No problems
as long as you work on a copy and if it does not work just trash it.
  Cheers
Dave in WV
