For anyone out there comparing connection speeds...

Machine & Modem: iMac FP with 56k internal modem
Internet Service Provider: Earthlink dialup
Test Time & Place: 5:18 pm EST - Ohio USA

Test Results:
Raw speed: 36283.91
Communications: 36.3 k per second
Storage: 4.4 k per second
Estimated time to download a 1 MB file: 3.9 minutes

Commentary: I regularly connect faster from home (location used) that I
do from my business, which is about one quarter mile away. Why? We
have relatively new switching gear for the phone service in our
residential area. While at the business, I am in a historic (read
ancient phone system) neighborhood on the edge of the central business
district. It is not unusual to have a connection speed of 12,000 or
below, mid-afternoon from the business. Ameritech claims it is because
of all those added people on the western coast. I believe it is all
those State Office (Ohio) workers playing on the internet mid-afternoon!
