Thanks Alan,  The Apple System Profiler does give the basic info needed to
look further but, too often, I engage the keyboard before the brain.  But
here is the reason for my interest.

My new internal HDs, Seagate Barracuda 4XLs, have a few neat options.  A
Delayed Motor Start Option, which I'm using to spread out the starting load
on the PS. Also, they have another option, Enable Motor Start, in which the
drive waits for a Start Unit Command from the host before starting the
motor.  This would seem a good feature if one were going to use this drive
(or the old dog, if this is a common feature) only for manual backups.  How
would one find out about writing and best impliment a program to have the
computer do this on command?
