I have not tried both of them, so I do not have actual experience to
base my, nevertheless firm, opinions on. I prefer the XLR8 products
to the Sonnet. This preference goes all the way back to the 68030
days. Back then the big upgrade companies were Daystar and Sonnet
(and a few others which are gone now, Dove, Newlife, Applied
Engineering, etc.) Daystar always made quality stuff with great
compatibility which showed just how good an upgrade could be. Sonnet
made less expensive stuff, but it was never quite as good, nor quite
as compatible as the Daystar stuff. Things have probably changed,
but that's my opinion formed in the dark ages (or the golden age?)
and held over all these years. Of course, Daystar is gone and Sonnet
is still here... But I think some properties of Daystar went to
XRL8 or was that NewerTech? I know Gary Dailey was a Daystar bigshot.

BTW, you do not need the SSE for the S900. Because the S900's
architecture is different from other six slot machines, it does not
suffer from the problem which the SSE solves. If you want the SSE
because you may some day move it to a 9x00 or PTP, then that makes
sense, but for use solely in the S900 there's no reason to get the
SSE any mroe than you would get one for use in the J700. XLR8's
somewhat less expensive MPe will work just as well in the S900.
