If we knew that, we wouldn't need a sandwich or we might only need one side of the sandwich (open face sandwich). It appears that the OS uses memory both at the bottom addresses and at the top addresses of the address space the RAM occupies. But the RAM used at the top addresses is much less. The problem is no one seems to know whether the soldered RAM is at the top addresses or the bottom addresses or for that matter, in which order the DIMM sockets are addressed. With a defective DIMM, it might be possible to figure this out. And I just had one a little over a week ago, that I already replaced without thinking about that. Oh, but that DIMM wouldn't even let the machine boot so it's not a lost opportunity. You need a defective DIMM that fails RAMometer after a few iterations.
