The most best (IMHO) software for use with tape drives is Dantz's Retrospect. I'm not sure if your tape drive is supported but you could check at Dantz's web site. They have an extensive list of supported tape drives. Unfortunately, it's likely to be expensive and the less expensive Retrospect Express does not support tape drives. But if you can afford it, I think you will be very happy with it. I think there was also a utility, the name and maker of which I've forgotten, that would mount tapes as if they were a random access device. I don't know if it's still around but it's worth looking into. I used to do backup for a fifty person section which used PCs. I've tried most of the backup software available on the PC side both network and single PC, and Retrospect is superior to all of them, hands down. My friends who still do PC and Unix support agree (which is still anecdotal rather than statistical). As soon as Dantz ported Retrospect to the PC and Unix sides it saw pretty wide adoption because the utilities on the PC side are just so bad in comparison.
