I'm really surprised at the HD speeds you are getting! >With my internal SCSI I'm getting maybe 1.9 MBs/sec, with my Acard ATA/66, >& IBM 120g, I get a max of 5.6MBs/sec. >I can only get these speeds by copying large files >How are you benchmarking your speeds? > >Akia/S900/225/208MBs Ram OS 8.6 >Acard ATA/66 slot #1 channel 1 (master) IBM 120 g 7200rpm > channel 2 (master) Yamaha IDE 16/10/40 >Ultimate Rez slot #6 > >gas
Well since you asked i looked up the figures. My Quantum Fireball 30GB 7200rpm drive hooked to Sonnet ATA/66 PCI card Peak Read: 33.29 mb/sec peak write: 13.99 Sustained Read: 32.76 mb/sec Sustained write: 13.78 50 pin IBM 2.0 SCSI drive came with old Power computing machine peak read: 6.60mb peak write: 4.98 mb sustained read: 4.19 sustained write: 4.33mb Seagate 50 pin 2.1 gb SCSI drive came with J700 UMax machine peak read: 7.98 mb peak write: 4.96 mb sustained read: 4.98 mb sustained write: 4.04 mb I use ATTO Express Pro benchmarking software which the pros use and guys like Mike at www.xlr8yourmac.com etc. It is free at http://www.attotech.com It just makes it easier to compare my results if I'm using the same software as the guys writing the reviews testing etc. So while it seems maybe I was making it sound better then it really was...your results are really low . But it could just be the software your using uses a different scale for results. Which is why as i said I use what the tester guys do. later Will S It also depends on your max transfer size. The lowest ATTO will go is 32k, which isn't low enough since HFS+ size is 4k. My results were similiar to yours using ATTO Tools, but real world results ARE VERY DIFFERENT!!! I normally use Speed Doubler to check my speeds, and it has been right on. You should try it. Let me know of your results. Good luck. gas -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
