Off topic I know but I have seen similar matters resolved on this list before so here's hoping!
Last night a friend brought an Imac to see me. He had managed to load OSX but not system 9 so whenever he tried to run any software It reported No system 9. The drive was single partition but he said he would be happy with OS9 only. I managed to boot from my OS9 CD but was told a firmware update was needed before installation could take place. (Prior to him getting X on the machine was running 8.6) After a lot of messing about we decided to reformat with 2 partitions and start with a fresh install of 9 Bad move as a firmware update was still requested, did paperclip and long bong but got the report cannot update to a locked disk so now I am stuck!
