Well, I got a little farther. I reformatted the external drive and dredged up the only apple-branded CD drive I have (aside from the one in my wife's beige G3, which I don't dare jack with) - If they made a negative 4x speed drive, this is it - removeable tray and all. But it's also an external. So I disconnected the internal scsi chain and was able to get through the entire XPostFacto routine to boot off the OSX installer CD, first time through. I still ended up with a black screen, but hopefully a trip to the Goodwill bins tomorrow will solve that problem. Thanks for the tips on what to get. -- Bill Christensen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Green Homes For Sale/Lease: http://www.greenbuilder.com/realestate/ Green Building Pro Directory: http://directory.greenbuilder.com/ Sustainable Bldg Calendar: http://www.greenbuilder.com/calendar/ Sustainable Bldg Bookstore: http://www.greenbuilder.com/bookstore International Strawbale Registry: http://sbregistry.greenbuilder.com -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
