There is one OS 9 quirk that baffled me when I first switched to OS 9... I would get a real long delay after startup. When the desktop appeared, everything would seem to freeze. No menus were available during the freeze, but after a period of time everything would be just fine. I won't go into detail, and I'm not suggesting this is the case for you, but simply removing the server alias's from the "Server" folder, in the System folder, fixed the problem. Those alias's being there attempt to open a file server at startup, and cause an unusually long delay.
