I've only a vague memory, but doesn't the Apple DVD Player need to be 
hacked to work in the absence of certain ATI cards with a special DVD 
module?  I thought I read something like that.  A Google search on 
Macintosh, DVD and Hack turns up several interesting web sites as I 
recall from several months ago.
