For those of you familiar with this saga, the replacement EZQuest Cobra+
60gb Firewire drive arrived today.
The info sheet that was packed with the drive mentions "The customer has
checked the drive and the drive is fine. The bridge is the problem."
They received the drive on June 6 and the diagnosis/comments line says
"change drive" and "changed bridge."
Final procedure says "replaced drive" and "replaced bridge".
The drive was shipped out 6.19 with a replacement serial number.
I did not expect them to go ahead and swap out the drive as well.

Everything is working fine.
Went ahead and reformatted the drive under HFS+ with HDST and most
importantly, using Driver Tuning Options for Firewire Devices, set the
Max Payload Size to 1024 bytes and Max Data Transfer Size to 512
Kilobytes.
(Both are one notch down from optimal speed.) Once these are set, hit
Done and reboot. Rebooting is necessary for the Driver Tuning Options to
take effect.
Test dragged various entire volumes, the last one being a 2 gb transfer,
which took maybe 5 minutes.
Not blazing fast but stability is more important to me these days.
It is, by the way, partitioned into 20, 20 and 18 gb volumes.

I would like to commend EZQuest for allowing me to open the case myself
to diagnose the problem.
It was replaced under warranty with no headaches.

Final report with happy ending.

Alan
